Hey everyone!
My name is Alyse Williams and obviously, I am a student and a senior at the University of Oklahoma. My major is Health and Exercise Sciences and I hope to attend Physical Therapy school in the near future. I am 21 years old and I grew up in Flower Mound, which is a suburb of Dallas, TX.
Some of my hobbies include working out, hiking, yoga, shopping, anything outside, movies, church, and spending time with my friends and family. I am obsessed with baseball and watching the Texas Rangers and going to the OU Baseball games whenever I can. I also have an extreme case of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), so I always have to be doing something.
I love being involved on campus so my freshman year I joined a sorority, Pi Beta Phi, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Not only have I met my amazing friends but this has led me to my current job teaching gymnastics to little kids and it opened my eyes to so many more opportunities on campus. The last two years, I have been on the executive committee of Soonerthon on Dance Moral. We raise money for the Oklahoma City Children Hospital and dance our hearts out with the little kiddos in the hospital. This is something that I have become very passionate about. The picture below is a picture of me and one of the miracle children from Soonerthon.
I have a lot of pets at home, and I miss them everyday. I have a dog named Jack, two cats named Angelina and Rex, and three horses named Annie, Snickers, and Candy. I love going home to see them, but my mom send me pictures of them weekly. I wish I had a picture of my adorable pets, but sadly I do not on my computer.
This summer I tried to pack in as much as I possibly could. I studied abroad in Arezzo, Italy studying the Mediterranean Diet and Culture. After that took a trip to Illinois for my family reunion to visit my crazy and huge family. Soon after that, my family and I left for Mexico for a week to lay out, relax, and play volleyball on the beach. To finish it off, my friends and I took a spontaneous weekend trip to Galveston, TX to hang out on the beach and catch the last rays of summer. When I was not traveling somewhere, I worked for my mom at an engineering company and turned the entire company into a paperless and "green" company. I had a great summer, but it went by way too fast.
That pretty much sums up my life! Thanks for reading my blog :)
Summer really always does go by so fast! At least you were able to pack in a whole bunch of really cool trips in different places. I have never studied abroad but I can only imagine that it'd be a once in a lifetime experience. I'm glad to hear that you did all this in such a small amount of time. There really is nothing nicer than spending time on the beach during the summer. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteHi Alyse. It is so good that you are so involved in things around campus. I know so many people who don’t get involved and regret it. I’m not big into sports, but by far, my favorite to watch is baseball. It is one of the few sports that I can get really involved in when watching. Plus, going to a game is ridiculously fun. From what you’ve written, it seems like you’ve had an extremely busy summer. Hopefully the semester will just as full of interesting things for you to do.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a fun and super busy summer! I work with kids as well through an after school program. I think it is one of the most rewarding things I have done, even though it can sometimes be challenging. I think it’s awesome that you help raise money for the children’s hospital! Good luck in the future!
ReplyDeleteHey Alyse,
ReplyDeleteI've never heard about Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) until reading your post, but I like the idea! I think it helps to encourage people to make the most of their time and experience new things which is great! I haven't gotten a chance to study abroad but it's awesome that you got the opportunity to do that. And in Italy! I hope you had a good time there :)
Nice to meet you!
Christine
Wow, what a fantastic summer, Alyse! And that picture of you with the monkey on the beach is just wild... but it looks like you were both having a good time! Being able to study Mediterranean diet right there in Italy where you could explore the food would be such a great adventure. I lived in Siena for a while, and there were so many food delights, both healthy and also not-so-healthy, but all very yummy! Would you be interested in doing some kind of food-related Storybook? There are so many myths and legends about different foods that it can make a great basis for a Storybook... anyway, that's something to ponder: sometimes combining food with stories can add new meaning to both. I hope you will enjoy the class!
ReplyDeleteHi Alyse, its nice to meet a fellow Texan at OU. I am from Plano myself. I love the monkey picture, it looks like its posing with you. And Italy must have been beautiful, the study abroad program is so wonderful. You had an awesome summer. I also think its really cool that you do philanthropy with the kids at the children's hospital and that you helped your mom's company go green. Giving back to the community and our environment is so important.
ReplyDeleteHi Alyse!
ReplyDeleteI studied abroad this summer and went to Spain. It was the most amazing experience of my life. One of my favorite parts about studying abroad was the food so I wonder what it would be like to be studying the diet while you are there. Haha. Soonerthon is one of my favorite events our campus does so that’s awesome you’re part of it. Good luck this semester!
Wow that seems like an awesome summer you had, I love to travel too! I had never heard of FOMO before, but I definitely have the same fear. I don't care what it is, if it is happening and Im available I want to be doing it. My family lives near Flower Mound, I love going there its a really nice area. Also one of my friends who moved from Oklahoma went to high school there. Looks like you have a pretty busy and exciting life, thats the best way to do it! Hope you have a good semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Alyse, its nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteWoo! senior year! ahh the good old FOMO that is the worst I hate sitting at home knowing that there is something else that I could be doing. Congratulations on helping make the company green that is a big deal. haha I love that picture of you with the monkey that is so cool. Monkeys are my favorite animal but I have never got to hold one I am slightly jealous.
it was nice meeting you and i look forward to reading your stuff
Hello Alyse,
ReplyDeleteI am also a senior here at OU and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It sounds like you have not let a moment go to waste, which is exactly how I am. I hate to feel like I could be doing something that could better myself, which may be the reason I am taking 18 hours of classes, working 2 jobs, and being active on campus. It is hectic, but it is a good kind of hectic!
Hello Alyse,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! I am also a senior here at OU and I can't wait to almost be done! My case of seniorities has already kicked in! Your summer looks like it was so much fun! Great job on doing Soonerthon! I think it is such a great way to reach out to our community. I have one cat (well now she is at my mom's house) but I don't think I could handle as many pets as you! Kudos! It was great getting to know you.
Hi Alyse!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness you are a busy woman! I love the picture of you with the monkey! So cute! How cool that you have gone all over the place learning and having fun. I am a senior at OU too. I am so glad the end is in sight, but also sad that it is ending too. I wish you much luck in all you do in the future. Have fun in this class, and enjoying the last bit of Sooner fun this semester!
Hey Alyse,
ReplyDeleteYou sound just like my roommate! She is also from Flower Mound(she went to Marcus High though) and she is involved in so many things on campus. I swear she only gets like 4 hours of sleep every night! I am so jealous you did the food class in Arezzo! I almost signed up for that class, but I had too much to back home with my internship! I did study abroad two summers ago in Spain and it was the best experience of my life! Have a great senior year!
Hey, Alyse!
ReplyDeleteI'm a senior and grew up in Flower Mound, too!
Since you love baseball and the Rangers, you must be excited that they made the playoffs tonight!
That's so awesome that you're so involved in Soonerthon. It's such a great way to give and to be a huge inspiration for those kids.
It was nice getting to know a little bit about you. I hope you have a great rest of your semester!
Hi Alyse,
ReplyDeleteYour hometown, Flower Mound, has such a cute name! FOMO I have never heard of, but I sympathize with that. I feel like it is a good thing to feel sometimes, it helps you get out and experience things. That is amazing that you helped the company turn into a green company!
Hey Alyse,
ReplyDeleteFrom the looks of it you had a very eventful summer and I am glad to hear that!
I have also studied abroad in Arezzo, Italy and i have to say it was probably one of my favorite little cities I have been to in my travels across Europe. As for your case of FOMO I guess being active and doing something is good thing because you never miss out on anything! I hope your semester is going well!
Hiii. You look and sound like a lot of fun. The coolest things I got from this were your efforts to raise money for the Oklahoma City Children Hospital and making your moms company completely green. Look at you already doing things! lol I also have FOMO haha but like only on the weekends cause I like to go out, it's hard for me not too, turn up haha especially after a long week of training and class. PTs are life by the way, saviors really haha especially for athletes. You tha real MVP. Nice reading about your life, you stay classy San Diego.
ReplyDeleteYou look like you had a great time in Italy and its nice that you added pictures of it. I’ve never been out of the country but Italy is definitely a place I want to go visit. I also read your first intro and I saw that we share a lot of similar hobbies so that’s also neat. You really are involved in school and it does make the experience a whole lot better. I look forward to getting to know you more in the future.
ReplyDeleteHello Alyse,
ReplyDeleteI almost took the same neutron class in Arezzo, but I got an internship instead. That awesome that you were able to study abroad. Two years ago I studied in Spain and it was the best experience I've ever had. Its cool that you are so involved on campus as well. It makes college way more interesting when there are things to do. Great to meet you!
Hi, Alyse!
ReplyDeleteI loved both your first introduction and your mid-semester addition! You have had some awesome adventures, and I am majorly jealous of all your travels! I am graduating in May, but I would love to spend some time abroad this summer. Do you have any suggestions for destinations??
I managed to jam four years of college into three, which has been great for me money-wise! Unfortunately, I missed out on some of those awesome extra-curriculars you're involved in. It sounds like you have done some really great things in our OU community. You should graduate feeling really good about the contribution you've made!
I really hope physical therapy school goes well for you, and I hope you get to go on more adventures soon!
Hey Alyse!
ReplyDeleteWow you had a very exciting summer! I also went to study abroad in Arezzo and I absolutely loved it! I miss it so much and I wish that I could go back as I'm sure you do as well. It is really cool that you want to go to PT school, that is a really great and rewarding profession to get into! I hope you get into the school that you want! Good luck with the ret of your semester and I look forward to reading your stories.
